Today is Memorial day..
I have friends and family in the Marines, friends in the Navy, friends in the Army, friends in the Air Force... you get the idea. These AMAZING people.. some Ive known all my life, or since High school, and some just as recently as last year, make me so proud to be friends with them! There is one person in particular that I want to write about though.. and his name is Chris Karch.
Sgt Christopher Neal Karch of the United States Army, is such an amazing person. Back in my young and rebellious days he was the one to give me my first marlboro red to smoke. I met him first through a friend of mine that I grew up with, she was dating him in high school probably about 6 years ago. He was a great conversationalist and he and I became fast friends. We lost contact for a while because they broke up, but I met a guy who just so happened to be very good friends with him. We had an awesome time be it wrestling or throwing a frisbee around. We didnt hang out too much though because he was deployed overseas and was pretty busy after that haha. We werent terribly close so it wasnt too much off my mind when he was deployed that time. I still missed him and occasionally we would be able to talk on facebook chat or he would send me a text message. On August 11, 2010... Chris was killed. I found out by looking on his facebook page and his father had posted pictures of his headstone. I cried for the loss of my friend but I was so proud of him and what he had done for his country. At 23 years of age Chris had seen so much more than many people, that he died to keep free, have or will ever see.
As I write this my heart aches and my eyes are tearing up and my throat is tight at the loss of my friend. Knowing that it could happen to any of my family and friends that are in the military is another fear. So pray for those men and women who serve this country because they do it to keep us SAFE and FREE. While we sleep so comfortable in our beds and houses, some of these people are sleeping on bed rolls in a desert or trenches. These men and women deserve so much more than what they are given.
Pray for all those in the military, past and present, on this Memorial Day!
